The following report comes from Paul Callahan at the North West Chester County Weather Station in East Nantmeal Township.
In the last four months 24.15” of rain fell on the Township but most impressive is the last two months (June and July) when 17.70” of rain fell which is 8.80” above normal for what are normally our two wettest months of the year!
In June we had three days that received more than 2” of rain (7th – 2.94”; 10th – 2.13” and 18th – 2.70”) and one other day with over an inch of rain. Overall in the month of June we recorded 10.89” of rain (6.61” above normal).
Although this was a wet period it was not very hot – in fact only 2 days have seen a 90+ reading in the relative high elevation of East Nantmeal, by contrast Philadelphia International Airport has recorded 19 such days already this summer. Here in East Nantmeal we have not had an entire summer season with more than 11 days exceeding 90 degrees in the last 10 years.
Well with September right around the corner the chilly winds of autumn are not too far away…where did the summer go? In case you were wondering the last 32 degree morning was back on April 21st – this was our 111th sub-freezing day last winter season. By the next time we update we should have a feel for what the winter of 2013/14 may have in mind.
