KI Distribution

Organizer: Chester County Health Department

Date: Thursday, August 24, 2017,

Time: 2:00-7:00 PM

Where: Kimberton Fire Hall, 2276 Kimberton Rd, Phoenixville, PA 19460

Background:

As part of Chester County’s continuing emergency preparedness effort, the Chester County Health Department, in partnership with the PA Department of Health, is making available one free dose of potassium iodide to each person who lives or works within a 10-mile radius of the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant. Potassium iodide, when taken as directed, helps protect the thyroid gland against the harmful effects of radioactive iodine that may be released during a radiological emergency. Because not all radiological releases involve radioactive iodine, residents should not take potassium iodide tablets unless directed to do so by Pennsylvania state health officials and/or the Governor.
